Welcome to Punini 金沢本店, a delightful café nestled in the heart of Kanazawa, Ishikawa. This charming spot is an essential visit for anyone yearning for a cozy retreat that tantalizes the taste buds while offering a warm atmosphere.

The menu at Punini is a celebration of seasonal delights and indulgent sweets, allowing guests to experience the vibrant flavors of Japan. One must-try item is the 果実とプリンのパフェ (Fruit and Pudding Parfait), a playful assembly of layers featuring a crunchy caramelized pie juxtaposed with an abundance of colorful fruit and rich cream. As you dive into this creation, the creamy pudding, bittersweet caramel semifreddo, and enticing Earl Grey jelly dance across your palate, creating a symphony of taste, aroma, and texture. Priced at JP¥1,500, this seasonal masterpiece is recommended for those seeking an experience that speaks to both the eyes and the taste buds.

If you lean towards a lighter option, the コーヒーゼリー トリプレット (Coffee Jelly Triple) is a revelation. Crafted using a slow extraction method, this creamy dessert merges layers of rich chocolate mousse and robust coffee jelly, creating a delightful three-part harmony of flavors – each bite transports you to a sweet, velvety dream. At only JP¥700, it’s a perfect indulgence for any coffee lover.

Another signature highlight is the ココプニーニ〈いちご〉 (Coco Punini Strawberry). With the sweet homage to the famed Tochigi strawberries, this treat delivers a juicy burst of flavor that keeps you coming back for more. Its perfect balance between sweetness and tartness is an embodiment of what Punini is all about: simple, quality ingredients presented with care.

The intimate setting of this café adds to its charm. While it may be tiny, the vibe is inviting, accentuated by the enthusiastic and friendly staff who make every visit memorable. Patrons like Jason Stolte have found the café to be a “wonderful little place,” emphasizing how delightful the drinks are and how genuine the service can be. Alon Alperovich and Rachel Yen praised the light, springy texture of the cakes, and the accommodating nature of the staff who offer an English menu to help non-Japanese speakers navigate the wonderful selection.

That said, it’s worth noting that Punini is small, with a maximum capacity that can feel tight, especially when bustling with eager guests. However, many, like Mari Hockett, appreciate the time taken to craft these complex dishes, ensuring that each visit feels like a unique experience rather than just a meal. Rachel particularly enjoyed her hot lemonade, a refreshing choice that speaks to the care put into every beverage.

In conclusion, if you’re in Kanazawa, don’t miss out on Punini 金沢本店. Whether you’re stopping by for a warming cup of coffee, indulging in a luscious dessert, or simply enjoying the cozy atmosphere, this café promises a charming experience that will linger in your memory long after you’ve left. Come find your slice of sweetness in this delightful hideaway.

The store itself is very cute, but it's super tiny. Putting four couples in there would be a stretch, and the absolute max capacity of the place. The service is a bit slow but mostly due to the complexity of the dishes and the time needed to put all the components together. However, the whole experience was very enjoyable. We tried their seasonal parfait, and their mango punini cotta. The fruit parfait was delicious, had textural components and was visually stunning. The kiwi paired perfectly with it, a tart and acidic fruit cutting through the cream. The punini cotta had a unique texture which was a cross between mochi and cake, and was chewy. The mango was a syrup with a slight tartness to it, but the parfait was the real winner of the lot. I would definitely come again just to try the next seasonal parfait they have.

Wonderful little shop and the employees were very nice to us. They had an English menu and were patient in dealing with us, two silly little tourists. Downside is there are only 4 seats. Anyways, pay them a visit. The cake was light and delicious and the drinks were good. I also enjoyed my hot lemonade immensely (sadly didn’t take a photo). The staff takes the time to take pulp out of the lemon, which made for a wonderful texture and added extra flavor. I would love to come again. ありがとうございます!

Adorable looking desserts with a variety of flavours. The Punini is like a chewy dessert, I could compare it to halva mithai in India. It's not too sweet. Extra marks for the presentation and branding. The set is a great deal for a large Punini and a drink of your choice. I loved their cafe latte, it came with a cute art of the bear. The bean quality is also great. Overall, great value and a nice experience.

A small cozy café on the outskirts of the Kanazawa station. Upon entering we were greeted with smiles, pleasant music and a nice contrasting warmth to the cold rain and snow outside. The place is small and offers a nice variety of hot drinks and small cakes, as well as a parfait and the recommended item: Coffee Jelly. The employees were easily able to understand our english and communication was not a problem here. I ordered the recommended Coffee Jelly item and waited just a few minutes for it to arrive. It was served on a cute bamboo plate next to a glass of icy cold water. The Coffee Jelly itself was incredible. It has five distinct layers: - A somewhat firm chocolatey first layer, it was somewhat bitter yet sweet. - A velvety smooth chocolate mousse that had more texture than taste. - A sweet and incredible crumble that both crumbled on bite and melted on the tongue. - A strong, concentrated layer of coffee jelly that was practically drinkable. - Finally, a small pudding topping that was somewhat sweet and sour. Each layer was anywhere from fine to good on its own but the combination of all layers, tastes and textures in one bite was one of the single best bites of dessert I have ever tried. It was perfectly sweet and bitter with a coffee taste that wasn't overwhelming, buttery notes and a great chocolate aftertaste. I was amazed by the perfect balance of flavor and texture that this small, simple cup was able to provide. I would absolutely recommend taking the 3 minute detour from Kanazawa station if you have the time to try it.
